Other San Francisco Fun – Iconic and Otherwise

This post will conclude my holiday posts and is a collection of the miscellaneous lovely and cheerful things I have not covered yet (in no particular order).

1. Cable Cars
Iconic sight, packed-like-sardines fun. We took the cable cars a couple times and we had a very amusing crew. Not the most efficient or economical way to travel, but an enjoyable experience to be sure.

2. Garlic and Shrimp Pizza, Marriott Hotel, Bin480
This was a delicious, very garlicky pizza with very tasty feta cheese.

3. Lombard Street
A very steep, serpentine road winding up a hill flanked by beautiful flowers and homes. We had to walk it because it was there. Constructed originally to lessen the load for people pushing carts uphill, and for the same reason skiers choose a serpentine path downhill; to control speed and prevent runaways.

4.The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf
Best chai award in the café category. Hands down.

5. The Golden Gate Bridge
Iconic symbol of the city. I was fascinated by the zipper machine that moves the lane divider to accommodate traffic flow. It looked like a Zamboni gone wild.

6. Our Silences
Travelling art installation to reflect on freedom of speech and self-censorship. Very cool.

11. Ole’s Waffe Shop
(Ok, this is in Alameda, but had to be included. Real people eat tasty waffles here)

12. Lori’s Diner
Very, very tasty corned beef hash served here. I want to recreate it at home (corned beef hash heated on a griddle, mixed with well-seasoned potatoes with an egg easy over ontop) No photo of the food because I was enchanted by the aroma and forgot to take one!

13. Chinatown
Blocks of interesting wares.
